Barcelona looking to end Liverpool star’s Anfield woes

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has endured a difficult start to his 2024/25 season, as the Uruguayan has spent the majority of the time on the bench under Arne Slot at Anfield Stadium.

The Dutch head coach who replaced Jurgen Klopp has preferred to play a mobile and clinical presence at the apex of the front line, and hence Diogo Jota has had opportunities to prove his credentials with Nunez reduced to a bits-and-parts role.

There have been reports suggesting that the Merseyside Reds are considering possibilities to sell the former Benfica forward, who has found it difficult to make do with the physical nature of English football. After moving to L4 in 2022, Nunez has netted only 34 goals in over a century of appearances donning the Merseyside Reds badge.

The expectations were sky high when Darwin initially moved to Liverpool with the Kop aiding him as an answer to Man City's Erling Haaland. However, that hasn't been the case, and while Klopp trusted in Nunez, Slot has taken altogether a different route.

Barcelona exploring Nunez option Barcelona looking to hand Nunez an exit from Liverpool. Nunez linked with Barcelona move Fichajes suggests that La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to offer Haaland an escape route from his nightmares at Liverpool. The report describes that Haaland remains Barca's top priority target; however, with the Norwegian unattainable, they could turn their heads to Nunez as they plan for life beyond Lewandowski as Camp Nou.

For Liverpool, a reasonable offer can force their hands into a potential sale as Arne Slot looks to retain much of their initially invested money in the striker and move on to different profiles, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush being a top target for the Reds.
