Liverpool was very nearly handed a huge title boost ahead of its clash with Chelsea at Anfield.

The Reds went into the weekend top of the pile and watched on as Arsenal lost its first match of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday. Mikel Arteta's men saw WIlliam Saliba sent off in the first half, with the defender now missing next weekend's title clash between the two sides.

Bournemouth eventually added a second late on to add to Arsenal's woes. and it looked as though champions Manchester City would also be dropping points in their trip to Molineux to take on struggling Wolves.

Liverpool is about to bust Premier League myth as Arne Slot faces 7-game reckoning My favorite player will soon make $100m switch and Liverpool should beat Man City to ultimate move Wolves took an early lead against Pep Guardiola's men but they fought back to level the scores before the break through Josko Gvardiol. City laid siege to the Wolves goal throughout the second half but could not find a way past the inspired Jose Sa in goal.

But there was to be one final twist in the closing stages as John Stones headed home. The goal sparked wild scenes in the City end but there was some confusion over the incident amid a VAR review.

Wolves was incensed that goalkeeper Sa's vision had been blocked by Bernardo Silva, although replays showed the City man had moved out of the way by the time Stones made contact with the ball.

"The VAR deemed Bernardo Silva wasn't in the line of vision and had no impact on the goalkeeper and recommended an on-field review. The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded."

The decision is in line with Premier League rules, which state: "A player will only be penalized if they are - Preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision, or Challenging an opponent for the ball, or Clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent, or Making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball."
