Five things we learned from Chelsea's 2-1 against Liverpool in the Premier League

Chelsea suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season this weekend away to Liverpool.

Chelsea were beaten 2-1 at Anfield by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, which is a result that puts a small pin in the positive start to the season.

Mohamed Salah's first-half penalty put the the hosts in front. While Nicolas Jackson equalised quickly after the restart for the Blues, Curtis Jones restored the lead for a Reds side that have returned to the top of the Premier League table.

As for Enzo Maresca's side, they're sixth in the division standings after the weekend's results.

Here is a look at five things we learned from Chelsea's defeat at Liverpool...

The 20-year-old midfielder was exquisite as the deep-lying midfielder in receiving possession and progressing the ball up the pitch.

Chelsea fans loved Lavia's performance versus Liverpool, with many of them claiming he belongs in the best starting XI moving forward.

If the Belgian youngster can stay fit, the Blues have got a seriously special individual on their hands.

For what it's worth, it was also great to see club captain Reece James back on the pitch making his first appearance of the season.

Robert Sanchez pressure is growing Unfortunately, Robert Sanchez's performance on Merseyside goes into his very poor catalogue.

The first-choice Chelsea goalkeeper has had some excellent displays this season, but there's now a few questionable games to go along with that.

Yet again, the 26-year-old was shaky in playing out from the back with the ball at his feet. On top of that, he could've done better with the Jones goal, plus he gave away a penalty that was overturned by VAR.

We're desperate for Sanchez to find consistency and impress, but there's more questions marks over his head with every match that passes.

Chelsea are not title contenders A minority of fans were getting carried away by a decent start to the campaign by suggesting this Blues side can challenge for the title. However, it's a timely reminder that a top-four finish is the realistic target.

In the league matches against Manchester City and Liverpool this campaign, Chelsea have suffered defeats.

This young Blues squad is still a way off the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool in their development.

Pedro Neto can be a big player Pedro Neto was a half-time substitute today at Liverpool. Despite just 45 minutes on the pitch, the 24-year-old winger definitely showed how much value he can bring to the Chelsea side.

The Portuguese attacker posed a real threat to right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold with his pace and directness. Afterwards, he moved over to the right wing and nearly set-up a stoppage time equaliser with his cross.

Neto currently finds himself out of Maresca's preferred XI in the league, but these types of cameos will soon change that.

Fotmob data recorded that Neto created three chances against Liverpool, the most of any player on the pitch.

Nicolas Jackson is getting better and better It was another step in the right direction for Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson with his fantastic display at Liverpool.

The 23-year-old forward scored a brilliant goal, where he sprinted in behind to perfection and finished calmly. It's now five goals in eight Premier League appearances this season.

Speaking via BBC Sport during Sunday's match coverage, Leon Osman claimed Jackson is starting to look like a "quality striker".

It's harsh on Christopher Nkunku that he's rarely starting in the league, but you can't deny that Jackson's all-round game is rightly meaning he's in possession of the No 9 spot.
