Liverpool earned a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday at Anfield to cement their position at the top of the table.

Mohamed Salah scored the opening goal via penalty in the first half, and Curtis Jones added another in the second to earn all three points for Arne Slot's side.

The Reds have now won seven of their opening eight games in the Premier League, and many have started to believe that they can challenge Manchester City for the title.

Jones, who started in place of Alexis MacAllister, was superb for the Reds, but there were others who were equally brilliant. One of them was Cody Gakpo.

Daily Mail raves about Cody Gakpo The Dutch winger kept his place on the side, and Slot will be heavily impressed by his effort.

The Daily Mail has described him as a "huge asset" with "great quality." They loved his work effort throughout the game.

Gakpo was later replaced by Luis Diaz in the 66th minute. He made one key pass and had a shot on goal. But his pass to set up Dominik Szoboszlai caught the newspaper's attention.

They have given him a 7/10 rating for his overall performance.

The newspaper wrote: "Work-rate is a huge asset. Impressive in the press, which worried Sanchez. Great quality to set up Szoboszlai chance."

Are Liverpool serious contenders for the Premier League? Liverpool have made a flying start to the 2024-25 season, but Slot will demand full focus from his team and not get carried away.

They will face Arsenal in their next Premier League game, and a positive result away from home will give them tremendous confidence for the season ahead.

Slot will be extremely happy to see Jones returning to his best form. The midfielder has struggled with injuries, but his quality is undeniable.

The Reds boss will need to rotate his players to match the intensity of playing in the Premier League and the Champions League, and he will be able to rotate Jones and MacAllister to good effect without hampering the system.

Liverpool do not need to pay heed to title challenge talks at the moment. All they need to do is pick up points and get their basics right, and the league table will take care of itself.
