‘I saw today’ - Arne Slot shares what he told Trent about Liverpool star after what impressed him heavily

Liverpool continued their excellent run on Sunday as they overcame Chelsea 2-1 to reclaim their top spot in the Premier League.

The Anfield encounter saw the Reds scoring the first goal in the 29th minute, with Mohamed Salah easily converting his spot-kick after Levi Colwill's foul on Curtis Jones.

The home side were awarded another penalty on the stroke of half-time following Robert Sanchez's block on Jones, but a VAR check overturned the decision.

Chelsea came out strongly after the break and levelled the scores on 48 minutes through Nicolas Jackson. But it took Liverpool three minutes to restore their lead as Curtis Jones brilliantly steered Salah's cross past the goalkeeper.

The latest triumph means the Merseyside giants have returned to the top of the league standings with 21 points from eight matches.

Manager Arne Slot was delighted with the result and was left particularly impressed with Salah's defensive effort.

The Dutch boss said he told Trent Alexander-Arnold that the England international has competition now because Salah can also play as a right-back.

Slot said in his press conference: "The good thing is that normally if someone asks a question about Mo Salah it's always about his contract, so now it's nice that you just asked me how important he is! He is important for us for the numbers he has... it was a bit of a funny remark after the game, I said to Trent [Alexander-Arnold], you have some competition now because I saw today that Mo can play as a right full-back as well! The defensive effort he put in today to help the team in that part is what pleased me just as much as his goal and assist".

Salah was one of the standout performers for Liverpool in Sunday's victory against Chelsea.

The Egyptian scored the opening goal from the penalty spot before setting up Curtis Jones with a sublime cross for the second. He also registered two key passes and won five of his nine ground duels.

Like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah's contract is also expiring in the summer of 2025.

Given his quality, the 32-year-old deserves to be given a new contract at Anfield.
