Manchester City have made a huge next manager decision with Pep Guardiola's future still uncertain after the latest admission on his future. Guardiola sees his contract at Etihad Stadium next summer with the 53-year-old still unable to offer clarity on what will happen next.

"I like my job, as I've said many times," he said in a press conference when asked about his future at City. "I love what I do. In terms of numbers or titles, it's already done, I would say a long time ago. I never, ever expected this when I arrived here. But still I like coming here in the morning to work - I love it!

"So I am thinking about the game against Wolves and the messages I have to tell (the players), the images I have to see, the training I have to prepare. Still I like it - and this is the main reason I am a manager. When I don't feel this - and not just at Man City - I will not be a manager. I will not even train. That's for sure."

With a final decision yet to be made, it looks as though City chiefs are potentially preparing for life after Guardiola with Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso being targeted. According to Sky Germany those at the Bay Arena are preparing for his departure in the summer of 2025.

The former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder looked primed to depart earlier this year amid strong interest from the latter after guiding Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title with not one defeat suffered. However, he opted to remain in Germany with the Reds forced to look elsewhere for their Jurgen Klopp successor.

Arne Slot ultimately arrived at Anfield and though Liverpool have made a lightening start to the season, Alonso becoming City's next head coach would certainly not please those in Merseyside given his links to the club. However, amid the expectation he will move elsewhere, they may have to soon face up to the reality of him heading to Manchester.

One saving grace however, could involve Real Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti's future also up in the air and Los Blancos could certainly tempt Alonso to follow in the footsteps of playing for and then managing the Spanish giants.
