Liverpool continue their pursuit of €45m defender – Club now more flexible on payment

Liverpool continue to be named as one of the strongest clubs in the race for Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio.

Today it's Portuguese newspaper A Bola who features a page-long story about the race from English and Italian clubs for the 21-year-old.

It's said there's a 'strong hypothesis' that the centre-back will be negotiated this summer, as he's one of the most wanted players in Sporting's squad.

Even though the story is about English and Italian clubs, only Liverpool actually get named. It's said the Reds have been following Inacio for a long time.

It's recalled that Sporting previously turned down offers worth EUR30m for Inacio, and said he's only leaving this summer for the price of his release clause, which stands at EUR45m.

However, it's now said that they could accept different 'solutions', like a smaller starting fee with various 'easily attainable' bonuses, as long as the final fee reaches EUR45m. A Bola's report would probably be more interesting if they knew the names of more Premier League and Serie A sides who are competing for Inacio, but if Liverpool are being mentioned, perhaps that means the Reds have some kind of lead in this race, and may be showing up first to get the defender signed.
