Report: Manchester City now grant permission for £150,000-a-week player to join Premier League rival

Manchester City have now given Kalvin Phillips permission to join Premier League rivals Newcastle on loan.

That is according to talkSPORT.

So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City? Let's take a look...

Kalvin Phillips given green light to join Newcastle Well, the Magpies hope to be joining Manchester City in the top four come May - and are keen to sign the England international to boost those UEFA Champions League hopes.

Eddie Howe has overseen a run of just one win in seven outings as injuries take a toll on Newcastle, and talkSPORT now believe a loan deal involving Phillips has been approved.

Newcastle are keen to replace the banned Sandro Tonali, but do not have the funds to sign the Manchester City No.4 permanently in January.

However, the Citizens have no plans to block the PS150,000-a-week man from moving to Tyneside on loan, and with the Telegraph claiming that Newcastle are confident of agreeing a deal, this one looks likely to materialise in January.

Phillips was once again left on the bench as Manchester City recorded a 3-1 win over Everton on Wednesday, after Guardiola recently admitted that the 28-year-old struggles to adapt to his tactical ideas sometimes.

Manchester City could also do business with Juventus Newcastle are not the only side looking at Phillips.

TalkSPORT add that Juventus are also keen, and according to Calciomercato, the Yorkshireman has said he would be happy to join the Italian giants.

That would - of course - mean Phillips doesn't end up strengthening a Premier League rival, so perhaps Manchester City would prefer that outcome.

Only time will tell what happens for sure, so stay tuned for further updates.
