Manchester City are very close to finalising a deal to sign Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.

We covered here on Manchester City News that the Citizens have agreed a PS21.7m move for the Argentina U17 international - after Fabrizio Romano broke the story on X (previously known as Twitter).

Now - thanks to Ole in Argentina - there has been an update on when Manchester City fans can expect an official announcement on the signing of Claudio Echeverri...

When Manchester City are expected to announce Claudio Echeverri Well - if all goes to plan - Manchester City will announce the South American's arrival next week, according to the Argentinian news outlet.

It is said that Echeverri will sign a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium before returning on loan to River Plate until December 2024, and potentially even beyond.

Ole add that River Plate actually hope to keep the 17-year-old until the middle of 2025.

While that could happen, the report states that Manchester City have plans to send Echeverri on loan to Girona before he joins up with the senior squad at the Etihad Stadium.

Therefore - while this is a seriously exciting bit of business from Txiki Begiristain - Manchester City fans will have to wait a while until they see the teenager in action.

Who is Claudio Echeverri? The Resistencia-born wonderkid has been nicknamed El Diablito (which translates to The Little Devil) as a result of his tormenting dribbling skills, pace and rocket of a shot.

Echeverri typically plays as a central attacking midfielder, where his close control and bravery to always take the ball have drawn comparisons to the legendary Diego Maradona.

Manchester City have secured themselves one of the hottest young talents on the planet, and it's not unrealistic to say that he could be a PS50m footballer by the time he eventually plays for the Citizens.
