Manchester City decided not to sign Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors due to concerns over his attitude and doubts about his immediate impact on the team.
The Argentina U23 international had been on City's radar since he was 13, but a deal for just EUR10m fell through after Brighton stepped in.
The City Football Group also felt that there wasn't a spot for Barco at any of their affiliated clubs.
Manchester City opted against signing Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors this month. According to Bolavip, two main reasons influenced their decision. Firstly, they were concerned about the 19yearold's attitude following clashes with management at Boca Juniors. Secondly, they did not believe that Barco could go straight into Guardiola's squad or find a place at another club within the City Football Group such as Troyes or Girona.
The Argentine wonderkid has been on Manchester City's radar since he was just 13 years old. A potential deal worth EUR10m (PS9m), which is Barco’s release clause, collapsed after Brighton expressed interest in signing him instead.
Representatives from the City Football Group stated that they didn't see a profile for any team within the group where Barco would fit in. Therefore, they concluded that he was not someone they could sign given today’s circumstances.
Ultimately, Manchester city allowed Brighton to acquire him without opposition due to these factors and uncertainties surrounding his future performance.
This move seems sensible considering Manchester CIty are financially capable of waiting until seeing how wellBaraco performs with Brighton before deciding whether it is worthwhile making an offer for him later downtheline if necessary.
Overall despite various doubts regarding barcos suitability manchester city appear content leaving brighton unopposed although more investment may be required if valentine proves himself.
