‘I thought’: Stuart Pearce admits he’s spotted one worrying weakness where Man City can ‘get done’

Stuart Peace believes he has spotted a worrying weakness in Manchester City.

City returned to winning ways on Tuesday night by defeating Brentford, a positive reaction to the disappointing draw against Chelsea on Saturday.

However, it was only a slender win and they were made to work hard for it.

It looked as though Pep Guardiola's side were about to drop points for a second game running until Erling Haaland struck in the 71st minute.

The Norwegian pounced on a slip from his fellow countryman Kristoffer Ajer to then race through and slot the ball home.

City have moved back up to second above Arsenal with the win and are just a point off Premier League leaders Liverpool.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES

It was a deserved three points but Peace has identified a weakness in the side in recent performances.

"But I thought in the Chelsea game and yesterday, Man City on a couple of occasions, can get done in behind.

"They play quite a high line on turnover and Brentford missed a couple of opportunities in the first half."

It's worth it It's true. City can be turned over quickly and if a team can repeatedly break the press and get in behind them with pace, they often look rattled.

One of the biggest examples was the first league defeat of the season to Wolves, in which City could not cope with the pace of Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan on the flanks.

It's exactly how Chelsea scored on Saturday, too, with Nicolas Jackson getting in behind and teeing up Raheem Sterling to find the back of the net.

It's a weakness but it's usually a tough one to exploit. City's press is incredibly hard to break, especially when most teams go large spells without the ball against them.

If you've just spent the last five minutes running around chasing shadows, you're going to be too exhausted to make the good runs or pick out the best passes when you eventually get the chance.

Maybe City will get caught out every now and then, but it's a worthy sacrifice for the dominance they enjoy the rest of the time.
