3 players Manchester City need more from, including 'irrepressible' £300,000-a-week star - opinion

It has been a relatively good start to the new for Manchester City.

So far, City sit third in the Premier League table having taken 18 points from a possible 24.

City flew out of the blocks, winning their first six.

But it was back-to-back defeats before the international break, but there need not be any overreaction.

City historically start new seasons fairly slowly.

So a haul of 18 points is pretty good.

And of course, City already have one trophy under their belt in the form of the UEFA Super Cup, after the victory over Sevilla on penalties.

MORE MAN CITY STORIESPep Guardiola will have spent the international break fine-tuning.

For the most part, everyone has been pretty good up to now.

But there are a few players City need a bit more from after the international break.

.

.

Jack Grealish Grealish spent a few weeks on the sidelines earlier in the season having been out injured.

The winger had a dead leg, which he says an experienced doctor told him was the worst he had seen.

The PS300,000-a-week star's performance in his first game back against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup was pretty underwhelming, but perhaps to be expected given his lack of match sharpness.

His display against RB Leipzig wasn't particularly fruitful either.

City definitely need more from their PS100 million man after the international break.

He's now got Jeremy Doku breathing down his neck, so Grealish - who City describe as 'an irrepressible character - will be finding himself on the bench more often if he does not starting producing the goods.

Matheus Nunes Nunes was City's final arrival of the summer, joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers for PS53 million on deadline day.

It has actually been a fairly good start from Nunes.

His assist for Haaland against Nottingham Forest was great.

But he struggled on his return to Molineux, being substituted off at half-time.

That cost him a starting spot against Arsenal the following weekend.

He also only got a few minutes at the end against RB Leipzig just before that.

So City do need a little more from their newest player.

He hasn't quite stamped his authority just yet.

But by no means has Nunes struggled since his move.

Erling Haaland This may seem harsh, since Haaland has already scored eight goals for City this season.

Pundit Shaka Hislop did stick up for Haaland earlier this week, saying the service to him hasn't been very good.

While that is true, there is no doubt about it - the Norwegian has been spurning a lot of chances lately.

Granted, some of the chances have been difficult ones to convert.

But we know what a world-class finisher he is.

City need more from their main man, who is actually currently being shown up a little by Julian Alvarez.

But City fans will not doubt Haaland.

He's an incredible player, who will surely get back among the goals soon.
