Rayan Cherki is one of the best young attacking players in Europe, and I was not surprised when Manchester City were linked with the Lyon star in the summer transfer window.
On July 20, 90min reported that Manchester City were interested in signing Rayan Cherki from Lyon in the summer transfer window.
The report claimed that City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, were looking for a potential replacement for Riyad Mahrez.
Algerian winger Mahrez was on his way to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, and the Citizens were looking at Cherki to replace him.
No move materialised.
Manchester City summer target Rayan Cherki now valued at PS22m Cherki is still at Lyon, but maybe not for long.
That is because Newcastle United and Chelsea are among the clubs who are showing interest in the attacker.
TuttoJuve has reported that Juventus, AC Milan, Newcastle and Chelsea all are closely following Cherki, who can play as a forward, out wide or as a central attacking midfielder.
MORE MAN CITY STORIES
The report has claimed that Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 20-year-old, adding that Lyon value him at EUR25 million (PS22 million).
My View: Manchester City should keep tabs on Rayan Cherki In my opinion, Manchester City should continue to monitor Rayan Cherki's progress.
Cherki is just 20 now and is still progressing and developing as a player.
I do not expect the defending Premier League champions to make a move for Cherki in the January transfer window.
But, if the France Under-21 international does well this season, then perhaps City should at least look into the possibility of doing a deal next summer.
Cherki has made six starts and two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 this season.
The French youngster scored four goals and gave six assists in 21 Ligue 1 starts and scored two goals and provided one assist in three UEFA Europa League starts for Lyon last season.
