Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided an important update surrounding the Manchester City future of Julian Alvarez, following recent reports.

The Argentina international has been inspired form for the reigning Premier League champions this season, forming a largely unstoppable partnership in front of goal with Erling Haaland, establishing himself as the second-highest top-scorer for the club so far.

With seven goals to his name so far this season, Julian Alvarez's new role in an advanced midfield position has also seen him register a further four assists, taking his tally of goal contributions up to 11.

However, despite his happiness in Manchester, it appears as though some clubs in Europe continue to bank on Julian Alvarez becoming uncomfortable at his lack of opportunities as a leading striker for last season's Treble winners.

Real Madrid became the latest club to be linked with a move for Julian Alvarez, with some reports claiming that Los Blancos officials were considering an approach during the summer transfer window of 2024.

Links to Madrid followed claims of interest from Barcelona, however transfer expect Fabrizio Romano has provided clarity on the overall situation, and revealing just how likely it is that the FIFA World Cup winner could find himself in La Liga as early as next summer.

Writing as part of a recent edition of his Daily Briefing, Romano admitted that Julian Alvarez is one Manchester City player that he does not see leaving the football club, despite reports from Europe claiming interest from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

"One City player I don't see leaving is Julian Alvarez, despite links with Barcelona," Romano admitted. "It's important to remember that Barcelona have invested big money on Vitor Roque and there's obviously (Robert) Lewandowski there too.

"I'm not aware of any contact with Barca at all at this stage."

Fabrizio Romano continued, "Man City have extended his contract as they trust Alvarez, they're super happy with his attitude, and at the moment there's no discussion at all internally or externally about the player leaving."

With Kevin De Bruyne continuing his recovery from surgery on a hamstring injury, and expected to be ruled out until early 2024, Julian Alvarez is set to continue playing an integral role in the centre of the pitch for Pep Guardiola's side.

Manchester City return to UEFA Champions League duties this week with a contest against Swiss side BSC Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, as Guardiola and his players look to take another giant leap towards early qualification for the knock-out stages.

Young Boys then visit the Etihad Stadium on matchday four of the Champions League group stage, before a visit by RB Leipzig is followed up by a matchday six encounter with Crvena zvezda in Serbia.
