Kalvin Phillips is willing to forfeit a multi-million pound Manchester City pay-off in an attempt to secure a place at Euro 2024.

The 27-year-old rejected the opportunity to leave Manchester City during the recent summer transfer window, despite considerable interest from the Premier League and Bundesliga in signing the Englishman.

Phillips was subject to interest from a number of clubs; with Newcastle United, West Ham, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Fulham all seeing approaches for the midfielder turned down.

The England international made just four starts during his maiden campaign at the Etihad Stadium last season, after moving to Manchester City from Leeds United for PS42 million, and signing a six-year contract.

Phillips has only featured five times for Manchester City so far this season, and made just one start during Rodri's recent three-match absence, after the Spaniard received a red card against Nottingham Forest for violent conduct.

Gareth Southgate has continued to select the 27-year-old for England, and handed Phillips a start against Italy during the October international break, as the Three Lions qualified for next summer's European Championship in Germany.

The potential to miss out on selection for Euro 2024 has reportedly forced Phillips into a rethink, with the midfielder willing to sacrifice a PS17.5 million pay-off to leave Manchester City during the January transfer window.

The Sun claim that the 27-year-old has 'accepted' his Manchester City fate and is willing to forfeit a significant amount of money to make an exit from the Etihad Stadium easier.

Phillips is ready to accept a reduced pay-off figure to leave in January, with Newcastle and Tottenham emerging a potential suitors.

Manchester City could also allow Phillips to leave the club on loan, permitting there is an obligation to sign the midfielder next summer, and the player's PS150,000-a-week wages were covered.

Etihad chiefs are also claimed to be keen to recoup a fee similar to the PS42 million Manchester City paid Leeds for the Englishman in 2022.
