Man City hero pays Liverpool star ultimate compliment with transfer interest but is told 'hands off'
Source:Latest News

A number of key Liverpool players have attracted interest ahead of the summer transfer window as the club prepares for Arne Slot's first season in charge. The main trio being focused on is Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as they are all out of contract in 2025. However, other names have been appearing on the transfer lists of rival clubs, too.

Barcelona have shown interest in both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in recent weeks, while Celtic are very keen on signing the exit-linked Caoimhin Kelleher, who is looking to become first choice between the sticks away from Anfield. Joe Gomez has also been on the radar, with Tottenham Hotspur showing interest in the centre-back earlier this year.

Liverpool's Premier League rivals aren't the only ones eyeing up the 27-year-old either. After a strong season which saw him operate on both the left and right of the Reds' defence during an injury crisis, Gomez has impressed those around them. Recently departed Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is also keen on the Liverpool defender and wants to bring him to Bayern Munich, following his recent appointment as their head coach.

That's according to The Mirror, who report that the Manchester City icon 'likes Gomez's versatility', which is quite the compliment coming from an iconic defender himself. Kompany wants to raid his former rivals for the England international's signature. However, Liverpool are expected to 'issue a firm hands-off warning' to Bayern, as they are not prepared to lose 'one of their most-valued players' this summer.

The good news for the Reds is that Kompany and co are monitoring a number of options on the market and are also looking at Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah, as well as Chelsea star Levi Colwill. Liverpool have also been linked with the latter but just like their Premier League opponents, they are not looking to cash in any time soon.

Tah played a key part in Leverkusen's historic title win during the 2023/24 season, which saw the Black and Reds snatch their first ever Bundesliga title in dominant fashion. Xabi Alonso's side steamrolled Bayern off their perch and won the league with a 17-point advantage, ending the Bavarians' 11-year reign as champions.

The Reds will be deeply disappointed they missed out on one final Premier League title for Jurgen Klopp and will be hoping to bounce straight back under new management.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, Alexander-Arnold and Gomez have all been selected by their respective countries to take part in Euro 2024. With five senior defenders all competing in Germany this summer, Liverpool fans are naturally watching on with a concerned eye as they hope that none of the players return to Anfield with an injury.
