'Delighted' Foden reflects on FWA Footballer of the Year award

If England have had any luck in recent major tournaments, it's exclusively bad.

But fear not, that is all set to change...honest! Phil Foden is certainly heading into the Three Lions' opener believing that anyway, after visiting a psychic on the eve of the tournament.

It wouldn't take tarot cards to forecast the Manchester City stars being one of the shining lights of the tournament, after a dazzling domestic season. Foden won yet another Premier League title under Pep Guardiola, scooping up individual honours on the way as well.

But international honours remain the only thing eluding the 24-year-old after suffering heartbreak at the last Euros in 2021 and the World Cup 18 months later.

Foden, and partner Rebecca Cooke, visited the psychic before flying out to Germany for a tarot card reading, the Sun reports. And the verdict seemed to be a positive one...as they so often are.

She explained: "I loved reading for Phil and Becca, both very spiritual and kind-hearted people! A lot of luck is coming Phil's way for sure!"

Whether that means he'll score a late deflected winner in a crucial knockout match, or just not get stuck in traffic, remains to be seen. A source told the Sun: "Phil was as keen as Rebecca to get the reading done, especially with such a big tournament on the horizon."

Thankfully for England fans, Foden isn't just relying on the supernatural, but has admitted a little dose of extra luck wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. After all, Gareth Southgate's side were a penalty shootout away from becoming European champions three summers ago, and had captain Harry Kane converted against a tired France, their World Cup adventure would likely have extended beyond the quarters.

"Sometimes in those big games football is small margins. A big moment. A player can create something from nothing or something goes against you," he told the Mail.

"I feel like in those big ones you almost need a little bit of luck on your side and we've been a little bit unlucky. Harry has that pen and if he puts it away then it's a different story. But it is what it is."

"You have to build the team around Phil Foden," Rooney said. "He has to be as a No10 and Jude play a little bit deeper.

"(Foden) is completely different to me (as a player), he's more mature than I was with the ball at that age. I was a bit more raw."
