Manchester City are set to offer star midfielder Rodri a "huge" new contract to tie him down to a long-term deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spain international's current contract is set to expire in June 2027 after he penned his latest deal in July 2022.

Football Insider first revealed on 10 May that Man City would open talks with the 27-year-old over an improved deal this summer as a reward for his fine form at the Etihad.

Sources say Pep Guardiola regards him as the best No.6 in world football and the Premier League champions will offer him a deal that reflects his value to the team.

Man City are aware of interest in Rodri from Spanish giants Barcelona, but it's unlikely they could afford to sign him this summer.

Man City to offer Rodri new contract following fine performances Rodri has played a key role in Guardiola's system since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

While a number of first-team players have been allowed to move on during that time, the Spaniard has remained a constant in Man City's midfield.

Rodri has now gone 50 league games without tasting defeat - the second-longest run without picking up a loss in Premier League history.

Man City are now set to offer the midfielder a new deal as they look to secure his long-term future and put to bed any speculation around him potentially joining Barcelona this summer.

The La Liga club are unlikely to have the funds to pull off such a deal as they are reportedly in PS1billion worth of debt and have been forced to operate under a reduced transfer budget in recent years.

Man City's fourth successive Premier League title last season ensured Rodri has now claimed 11 trophies since making the move to the Etihad five years ago.
