Chelsea have moved ahead of the competition in the race to sign Michael Olise, according to reports.
The Crystal Palace winger is a target for several clubs this summer, with ManchesterWorld reporting on United's interest earlier this summer.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the 22-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 19 Premier League appearances this season. The Guardian claim there is an 'acceptance' at Selhurst Park that a sale is likely, while Chelsea have moved first to try and establish what release clause Olise has in his contract.
The Athletic claim that figure is around PS60m, while adding Chelsea have also requested permission to speak to the attacker's representatives.
There does seem some uncertainty about the player's release clause, however, with the Times reporting that it only applies to sides playing in the Champions League, which Chelsea are not. That would also be an issue for United, who identified Olise as a primary target ahead of the window, despite having left-footed wingers Amad and Antony already in the squad.
Finally, transfer reporter Ben Jacobs has stated that clubs are hoping to get any possible deal wrapped up quickly given Olise's involvement with France at the Olympics in August. He adds the player wants to 'assess' all his options and wants clarity on the situation this month or early July.
Jacobs has claimed Chelsea do not feel disadvantaged by not having Champions League football, with the Guardian reporting similar.
While United are likely to enquire about Olise's situation, a move on City's behalf looks less likely given the plethora of attacking wide players on their books. Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku provide plenty of competition in Pep Guardiola's squad, while Savio is expected to join this summer.
