Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man City have orchestrated their surprise new legal action to "weaken" the Premier League's case in their 115 outstanding financial charges.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old - who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - insisted City are trying to "attack and derail" the English top-flight.

Man City have pursued bombshell two-week legal action against the Premier League, which started on Monday (10 June), in a bid to end the Associated Party Transaction (ATP) rules.

The champions are suing for damages as they accuse top-flight rules of being anti-competitive and discriminatory towards the Gulf states.

Current APT rules prevent clubs from inflating commercial deals with owner-linked companies.

City's relationship with the Premier League has already been strained by their alleged 115 financial charges - which are due to be heard in November across six weeks.

Man City 'on the attack' against 115 charges after new legal action Wyness insisted the Etihad Stadium club are "on the attack" despite facing those charges later this year.

He told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "Once I recovered from the shock of reading this new lawsuit, I thought about the 115 charges.

"They're not defending themselves in this new case, they're on the attack.

"I think the new case will be about trying to attack and derail the Premier League in an attempt to weaken the charges they have been facing for some time now."
