Man City chief offers subtle warning to Sir Jim Ratcliffe over Man United's Omar Berrada poaching

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has warned Sir Jim Ratcliffe that the poaching of Omar Berrada won't affect his club as they continue to go from 'strength to strength'.

Manchester United pulled off a coup earlier this year when it was announced Berrada would quit his role as City's chief football operations officer to take over as chief executive at United this summer.

Khaldoon, however, is confident that the the 'machine' behind the scenes at the Etihad can continue to make City the biggest force in English football despite United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's assertion that he wants to end their dominance.

"We have a lot to learn from our noisy neighbour and the other neighbour [Liverpool]," Ratcliffe said after his arrival at United was announced. "They are the enemy at the end of the day. There is nothing I would like better than to knock both of them off their perch.

"But they have been in a good place for a while and there are things we can learn from both of them. They have sensible organisations, great people within the organisations, a good, driven and elite environment that they work in. I am very respectful of them but they are still the enemy."

It is part of a wider trend of City seeing employees, including the likes of coaches Enzo Maresca and Rodolfo Borrell, both of whom are now managers, move on to rival clubs.

Asked how he felt about such exits in an interview with the club's media channels, Khaldoon said: "Frankly? Proud. It tells you we are very good at what we do at every level.

"Coaching staff, medical staff, physios, senior executives that are being sought after by the best teams in the world. I think if anything, that's testament that we're on the right track. It confirms a) that we're doing it right, b) the people, c) that we have a system, that we have great leadership, that we have great management and a system that continues to produce talent at every level.

"Every aspect of the business of football, from coaching to playing to managing. When you look at people that get an offer for a great job at another club, of course you understand. It's natural people will take other challenges.

"But I think one thing that I will hopefully always feel is that when they leave, they leave with appreciation for the time they spent at the club. They leave with respect for how this club has helped them in their careers and they'll always have, I think, a positive memory of the time we spent.

"The people that we want to keep, we will do everything we can to keep. Sometimes we can't win them all. But, it's the natural evolution."

And Khaldoon has warned City's rivals, including United, that the exits won't weaken them. He is pleased with the way the club's overarching ownership group has grown to become a strong force in the world game.

Khaldoon is particularly proud of the club's strong financial position having posted record revenues of PS712.8million and a profit of PS80.4million last year.

"I'm very pleased with the results," said Khaldoon in his end-of-season review. "The results are very sustainable because we have a very clear foundation that has been built over many years. We have a financial and economic machine.

"I think we're on a trajectory that has been there for years now and continues to go from strength to strength."

"The model works. We have a great system, we have a great management team, we have great clubs as part of the group. City Football Group is no longer a test of viability. It's now a fully-functional sports and entertainment machine that continues to grow."
