Gary Neville believes that England are missing two key players this summer as they hope to win the European Championships this summer.

Under former Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate, England have consistently reached the quarter-finals and beyond in major tournaments and the key behind that was the balance of the team.

Prior to Southgate's appointment as England manager, the Three Lions had a tendency to try and shoo-horn in their best players, even if it was to the detriment of the team as a whole.

Southgate, however, has avoided this by handing players who may not be the most glamorous, chances in the team as they offer the team balance.

However, despite the victory, there have been concerns that the current England side are not as balanced as they were in the previous European Championships, where the Three Lions reached he final.

Former Manchester United and England right-back Gary Neville believes that England are missing Kalvin Phillips and Jordan Henderson in the engine room.

Neville told Sky Sports: "There are some small alarm bells around balance and having a good group of players that are very talented but are we as good a team?

"Last night, you start to think about the impact and influence of Jordan Henderson and Kalvin Phillips. The best players don't make the best team sometimes.

"We're aware Kieran Trippier is right-footed at left-back and is playing there because of all the injuries in that position which creates a further imbalance. But in midfield, somehow we have to try and get that right. Gareth [Southgate] will be more than aware of that."

England's midfield struggles Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was given a starting berth in the midfield for the Three Lions alongside Declan Rice.

However, the Englishman seemed to struggle playing higher up the pitch for the Three Lions and Conor Gallagher was eventually brought on in the second half.

Phillips and Henderson have had a tough 12 months with the former Liverpool midfielder moving to Al-Ettifaq before then transferring to Ajax. As for Phillips, the English midfielder had a torrid loan spell away from West Ham United and may well be forced out of his parent club Manchester City this summer.
