'Every single time': Pundit claims England stars are guilty for one thing, especially £50m Man…

Shaka Hislop believes the England players were guilty of doing one thing against Slovenia, with a Manchester City player especially guilty.

England topped their group after drawing 0-0 with Slovenia in their final group-stage match.

They took five points from their three games, which was enough to see them through to the last 16 as group winners

It was another dismal display from England against Slovenia, who themselves have progressed to the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams.

Once again, there was a lack of cohesion, fluidity and control and at times the tempo was far too slow.

Shaka Hislop couldn't help but notice something disappointing watching the game, and reckons a Manchester City player was especially culpable.

It was another lethargic display that lacked invention, and the Three Lions only improved when Cole Palmer came on late in the second-half. Kobbie Mainoo and Anthony Gordon also both did well.

Fans are having a real problem watching this England side at the moment.

There just doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency or bravery when the players get the ball.

In the eyes of former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, players are taking too many touches and one Manchester City player is especially guilty.

The pundit said (ESPN FC): "For me, when I watch England play today. I felt that, every single time, either centre-half and (Kyle) Walker in particular, whenever they got the ball, every single time it was three and four touches. Every single time.

"As a result, Slovenia can just drop off. He gets the ball, he takes three touches, they figure out where everybody is, they move it over to Stones or Walker and they just shift over.

"At no point, to your previous question about the ineffectiveness of Jude Bellingham, it's because every time a defender picks the ball up, by the time that first ball is played into midfield, there's just no space. Because that defender has already taken three or four touches.

"There's absolutely no way anyone can find any space."

Hislop is right Hislop has a point, the England players could do with moving the ball quicker.

So far across the three games, it has felt like the midfielders haven't had much time and space on the ball and arguably, it is because the ball has taken too long to come into them from the back.

PS50 million City signing Walker - who Gary Neville last week suggested should be used at left-back - is a very quick player, but perhaps not as quick as he should be when in possession of the ball.

If the ball is delayed, there is a slim chance that the receiving player is going to have decent space. It then makes it really difficult to progress the ball forward.

England need to speed up their play, because at the moment it's too slow and predictable.
