In a recent print edition, Sport (via Sport Witness) claimed that Manchester City are still in the running for River Plate playmaker Franco Mastantuono. It has been stated that the Mancunian giants would have to rival Real Madrid in pursuit of the Argentine prospect this summer.
Mastantuono's Recent Emergence In Argentine Football The 16-year-old came through the youth ranks of River Plate and did well to break out as a first-team starter for them earlier this year. Mastantuono has already featured in 18 senior matches for the Argentine outfit so far, finding the back of the net twice and earning one assist in the process in various competitions.
The Argentine youngster managed to prove his worth at times for River Plate in the final third. At the moment, Mastantuono is amongst the best young playmakers in South American football.
His current contract at River Plate will run out at the end of 2026. Thus, Man City would have to launch a convincing offer if they are to secure the services of the Argentine whizkid this summer.
The Argentine talent can even set up a few promising chances for his teammates up top. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. At 16, Mastantuono has the potential to be a generational talent.
Therefore, it makes sense for Man City boss Pep Guardiola to step up his efforts to bring the Argentine starlet to the Etihad Stadium this summer. However, only time will tell whether Mastantuno can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Man City manage to land him later this year.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Mastantuono, so Man City should think about going all out to land him before the end of this summer transfer window.
