Chelsea latest club to show interest in Premier League defender
Source: Shoot |

New Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca will face former club Manchester City in his first game in charge of the Blues.

The Italian has had two spells on the coaching staff at The Etihad, the latter of which was as Pep Guardiola's assistant manager during the Citizens' treble winning 2022/23 campaign.

He departed the club last summer and took charge of Leicester City, guiding the Foxes to the Championship title and, in doing so, securing a return to the top flight after their shock relegation the previous year.

Now, Maresca has taken on his most high profile job to date, and he will begin his tenure as the Blues' head coach with a game against City at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

In the meantime, it appears that Chelsea are the latest side to show interest in a Premier League defender.

According to The Telegraph, the West London side are interested in Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo, 21.

Murillo has emerged as a target for Chelsea

The Brazilian joined Forest from Corinthians last summer and enjoyed a fine debut campaign in the Premier League, winning the club's player of the year award.

In total he made 36 appearances for the club across all competitions, helping Forest avoid relegation despite a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

The report claims that the Blues are on the hunt for further defensive reinforcements following the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo, and Murillo has emerged as a potential target.

While official talks between the two clubs have not yet taken place, the report claims that Chelsea have enquired about the player's availability through intermediaries.

It is also claimed that Forest need to sell players before the end of June in order to comply with profit and sustainability regulations, and they could therefore be forced to sell key players such as Murillo or Gibbs-White.
