Manchester City attempted (but failed) to hijack Bayern Munich transfer

Bayern Munich fans are over the moon with the recent news involving Michael Olise. The Frenchman is believed to be close to finalising a move, after Bayern Munich agreed to pay PS50.7m to secure his signature. The Crystal Palace will undergo a medical in Bavaria and touch wood, if things go to plan, he will become a new Bayern Munich for the upcoming season.

Securing the Michael Olise transfer was not as easy or smooth-sailing as Bayern Munich have made it seem. Indeed, the competition for Olise has been heated throughout the entire transfer race. Most notably, Chelsea were interested in keeping him in London, so too were Arsenal at one point. But as things stand, Bayern Munich are the front-runners and at the most advanced stage.

This did not stop former Bayern manager Pep Guardiola from sticking his beak in, though. According to a report from Football Insider, Man City attempted a last-gasp attempt to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, hijacking the Bayern Munich deal after his medical was booked in. Bayern fans will be glad to hear that the attempt failed.

The truth is, until Michael Olise is a confirmed Bayern Munich player, fans will not be able to rest. This is the nature of the summer transfer window, especially the 2024 summer where every top club bar Real Madrid is on the hunt for attacking talent.

Bayern Munich's incredible efficiency to get the deal to this stage, for almost PS10m less than Olise's release clause, should certainly be admired. However, it should not be applauded until fans see Olise in a Bayern Munich jersey.

The Frenchman has consistently been one of the best wingers in the Premier League. To be frank, he has been ready to take the step up for a while but this summer is the perfect time, having hardened the Premier League style and matured for a club who battled in mid-table.

Vincent Kompany can certainly get the best out of Olise and it is a credit that he was even considered by Man City, one of the best clubs in the world.

Do you think Michael Olise will be a hit or a miss at Bayern Munich?
