‘Hasn’t got that burst’: Gabby Agbonlahor reckons £54m Man City star is starting to slow down

Manchester City have eight players in their squad that are or above the age of 30.

In fact, Pep Guardiola has the fifth-oldest squad in the Premier League, with an average age of 26.3.

Despite that, City had more players (14) picked to represent their countries at the 2024 European Championship than any other side in the top flight.

With the quarter-final stage of the tournament approaching, numerous City players have already been knocked out of the competition.

Now though, one of City's older players has found himself being the topic of conversation after his latest international performance.

Gabby Agbonlahor says Kevin De Bruyne isn't as sharp as he used to be When asked on talkSPORT about Kevin De Bruyne after his recent performance for Belgium in their 1-0 defeat to France, Gabby Agbonlahor had this to say about the midfielder and his future as a top-level player.

He said: "Even watching him last season he hasn't got that burst from midfield like he had in previous years at Manchester City. Which is normal, you get into your early thirties, you lose a yard. But technically how good he is, he can still play at the highest level."

De Bruyne is still a vital player for City After having surgery on a serious hamstring issue that kept him out of action for several months last season, the midfielder still managed to score six goals and deliver 12 assists in 19 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League.

In Belgium's defeat to France, the 33-year-old, who City paid PS54m to sign back in 2015, was dribbled past on two occasions and lost five of the seven duels he was involved in.

Agbonlahor isn't the first talkSPORT pundit to share his thoughts on De Bruyne and his recent efforts in Germany, as Darren Bent named him as one of the disappointments of the tournament prior to the France game.

In our view, regardless of any dips in the midfielder's physicality or athleticism, he has still proven himself to be a crucial player for City based on his regular goal contributions.
