If Christopher Vivell moves to Old Trafford this summer, he will join Manchester United off the back of an impressive recruitment record in both Austria and Germany
Manchester United's rebuild looks set to continue, with the club holding talks to bring Christopher Vivell to the club.
Talks over a deal for former Chelsea technical director Vivell have already begun, it has been claimed, with a view to a short-term appointment. The 37-year-old left Stamford Bridge in 2023, having previously worked with RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.
United have already made big hires behind the scenes. A deal for Dan Ashworth has finally been agreed, following earlier agreements to bring Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada to Old Trafford.
If Vivell is appointed, he will come with a strong track record of signing players who have made it to the very top. Here, Mirror Football looks at five examples.
He bagged four hat-tricks in the first half of the campaign, while also netting against Liverpool, Napoli and Genk in the Champions League group stage. A move to Borussia Dortmund followed in January 2020, and he didn't slow down one bit.

Josko Gvardiol Another member of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City squad, Gvardiol - like Haaland - was linked with Leeds United before joining one of the Red Bull clubs. In this case it was Leipzig rather than Salzburg, who swooped for the Dinamo Zagreb defender in 2020 and let him stay in Croatia for one more season.

Gvardiol played Champions League and Europa League football for Leipzig, including in a meeting with City in the English club's 2022-23 run to glory. The Bundesliga side spent the money received for him on a number of new players, including French centre-back Castello Lukeba and 24-goal forward Lois Openda.
Dominik Szoboszlai According to The Athletic, Vivell's understanding of multi-club models is a factor in United's interest. A number of players moved between Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig in recent years, with Szoboszlai perhaps the highest-profile of the bunch.

Two years later, the Germans had more than doubled their money when Liverpool met the player's release clause. After some highs and lows in his first season at Anfield, he has a chance to kick on under new manager Arne Slot.

After a slow start to the season, the Slovenian frontman finished it like a train to have Arsenal and Manchester United sniffing around. However, he has committed his immediate future to Leipzig with a new contract.
When Sesko joined Salzburg from Domzale at the age of 16, he hadn't even made a senior appearance. Five years on, he's eighth on his country's all-time scorers list and led the line at Euro 2024.
Karim Adeyemi Karim Adeyemi was still playing in Austria when he made his senior Germany debut ( Image:

Vivell helped bring the forward to Austria from lower-league German side Unterhaching. After impressing on loan at reserve side Liefering, he caught the eye of top sides in England and Spain but was allowed to break through into Salzburg's first XI.
Adeyemi's group stage goals helped his team reach the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in 2021-22, with a move to Borussia Dortmund following. The pacy frontman has 14 goals in two seasons at the club, including a memorable Champions League effort against Chelsea.
