Manchester City have been linked with several players so far this summer. One of those has been Bayer Leverkusen's dynamic full-back Jeremie Frimpong. But a new report suggests that a City move for Frimpong appears unlikely. It does appear that the champions do need a player to come in and provide cover for Kyle Walker. But it doesn't appear that it is a imminent move from Manchester City based on a new report.
Sam Lee has reported for the Athletic that Manchester City have held talks in regards to Frimpong in recent months. Furthermore, Lee also reports that the champions would have only accelerated a move for the Dutch international if Kyle Walker were to depart the club this summer. Lee adds that there is interest in Walker from the Saudi Pro League. Lastly, Lee reports that it doesn't appear likely that Walker will leave Manchester City this summer.
A potential Manchester City move for Jeremie Frimpong doesn't appear to be a priority at this stage. Based on Sam Lee's new report it doesn't appear that a Manchester City move for Jeremie Frimpong is a priority or imminent. As Lee reports it appears that the champions only view the Bayer Leverkusen full-back as a potential replacement for Kyle Walker. If that proves to be the case then it would seem that a player like Rico Lewis may have more opportunities next season.
There is an argument to be made that Jeremie Frimpong would complement Kyle Walker. While the pair wouldn't play together they could provide an attacking and a defensive option at right-back for Pep Guardiola. Manchester City play against a low defensive block in the majority of their games. A player like Frimpong could add another attacking weapon to City's squad. That could help the champibreak downdown their opponents who sit low while saving Kyle Walker's legs for bigger games and opponents. It is food for thought given Kyle Walker's age.
But as it stands it doesn't appear that City move for Jeremie Frimpong is imminent. That could change in time but for, now it appears that the champions are focused on other areas this summer.
