Swansea City manager Michael Duff believes defender Ben Cabango has what it takes to become a real leader for his side.

The Welshman is set to return this weekend after a period on the sideline with a hamstring injury. He is in contention to feature in the side's trip to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Despite only being 23, the Cardiff born defender has amassed 156 appearances for the Swans in his career to date. He has also captained the club's youth side's at every level he played before joining the senior side.

Cabango has also featured seven times for the Welsh senior international side, making his debut in June against Turkey in a European Qualifier.

He has appeared in nine of Swansea's opening 13 championship fixture so far this season, including a run of three wins against Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Norwich City, conceding only once, before his hamstring injury.

Speaking to the club's website he said: "I think Ben has been good, I think there is a leader in there. He is a young player, but I think he has got leadership qualities,"

"You don't have to walk around shouting or headbutting a wall to be a leader, you can lead in how you conduct yourself."

"There are different ways to lead, but I certainly feel Ben can be a leader."

Cabango has been a solid figure in the defence of Swansea over the last few seasons and despite his age, has put in big performances and come up with some memorable moments for the fans. He has managed to score in two South Wales Derby victories, including a last minute winner away at Cardiff City to earn bragging rights for the club last season.

There is no doubt he has a fantastic career ahead of him and, with still plenty of room to grow and mature, is sure to become a vital figure for Swansea and Wales in the future.

It hasn't been the greatest of starts to the new season for the Swans, but they appear to have turned a tide under Duff and could be heading the right way up the table, helped by the return of Cabango.
