Man City transfer could deliver huge £65m blow to Liverpool

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze has been linked with a move to Manchester City, which could have a 'knock-on effect' on the future of another of the Eagles' stars

According to The Guardian, Pep Guardiola's team are considering a move for England international Eze as they look for a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who has been linked with a move to Saudi side Al-Ittihad and only has one year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Eze has been turning heads with his performances for Palace in the 2023/24 Premier League season, earning him a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the European Championships this summer. He made three appearances off the bench during the tournament, which saw England reach the final, only to lose to Spain.

Despite Palace's determination to keep Eze, his contract is said to include a release clause of PS60 million, which could rise to PS70 million with add-ons. City have reportedly been interested in Eze for some time and were close to making a move for him last summer.

If City do decide to pursue Eze, it could impact the future of his Palace and England teammate Marc Guehi. Liverpool have shown interest in the defender, who had an impressive run in this summer's tournament.

Should Palace be compelled to sell Eze to City this summer, due to the activation of his release clause, it could make them more resistant to any potential bids for Guehi. There's no evidence of a release clause in the defender's contract, implying that clubs will need to meet Palace's valuation, which is reportedly PS65 million.

If Eze's sale goes through and Palace pocket up to PS70 million from it, it's likely that Guehi's price tag will increase. The Eagles have already profited from Michael Olise's move to Bayern Munich; if they also offload Eze, they'll likely do everything possible to prevent losing a third key player in the same transfer window.
