Goalkeeping plans at Manchester City revealed should Ederson complete transfer to Saudi Arabia

Manchester City have no interest in bringing in a new 'big name' goalkeeper this summer, should Ederson secure a move to Saudi Arabia in the coming weeks.

The future of the Brazilian international remains uncertain heading into a new month of the summer transfer window, despite the withdrawal of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr - who boast the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane in their squad.

The Riyadh based club issued an opening and only proposal to Manchester City for the 30-year-old, understood to be worth in the region of PS25 million, which is significantly lower than the club's valuation of their mainstay shot-stopper.

However, interest from the Middle-East remains in Ederson, and in turn, the player continues to hold a desire to make the switch should the right proposal be submitted to his current employers whilst away on pre-season duties in the United States.

But what would Manchester City do in the event of a sale of a goalkeeper that has remained their number one choice between the sticks since the summer transfer market of 2017?

According to the information of transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, in the event that Ederson left Manchester City for the Saudi Pro League this summer, the club's first-choice starting goalkeeper would become Stefan Ortega Moreno.

That update comes in light of recent links to high-profile names, to which Romano clarifies that the Premier League champions have no interest in bringing in a 'big name' as a new goalkeeper, despite rumours of interest in Gianluigi Donnarumma in particular.

Manchester City have also been tenuously linked to the likes of AC Milan and France international Mike Maignan, as well as FC Porto and Portugal's European Championships star Diogo Costa, with neither rumour developing in intensity.

There has also been claims regarding a new back-up choice to come into the club, with some supporters pointing towards Burnley's James Trafford as a possible solution given the club's favourable clauses in their agreement to sell the Englishman to Turf Moor last year.

For now, Manchester City continue with their usual trio of goalkeeping solutions whilst embarking on their four-match tour of the United States this summer, with matches scheduled against Celtic, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, and Chelsea.
