Everton are prepared to offer Kalvin Phillips an escape from Manchester City but are likely only able to afford a loan deal, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported on Tuesday (23 July) that while Sean Dyche is eager to bring the England international to Goodison Park this summer, the Toffees will only be able to finance a temporary spell.

Dyche is looking to bolster his midfield options after Amadou Onana completed his move to Aston Villa and the 28-year-old has been identified as a potential option.

Everton's Premier League rivals Fulham have also been keeping tabs on Phillips' situation and could sign him as a replacement for Joao Palhinha who has joined German giants Fulham following the Euros.

Can Everton afford a transfer for Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips? The takeover drama off of the field at Goodison Park this summer was always going to make it incredibly difficult for Everton to spend loads of money to make permanent additions to their squad ahead of the new season.

Even though Phillips' stock is likely the lowest it has been in a number of years following his terrible loan spell at West Ham United, Manchester City are still going to expect a reasonable fee before allowing him to depart permanently.

Dyche's side just doesn't have the sort of many required to complete that move readily available and with the Friedkin Group's takeover falling through, that is unlikely to change before the end of the summer transfer window.

If a deal can't be struck, the Toffees will have to move swiftly on to alternative targets before they waste too much time.
