Pep Guardiola has given his thoughts about the prospect of Manchester City midfielder Rodri winning the next Ballon d'Or.

The 28-year-old has been the talk of the town once again over the last month or so, as he shone for Spain at Euro 2024.

Rodri played a key role in his side going all the way in Germany, and he was deservedly named the Player of the Tournament.

That was just the latest award for Rodri, whose reputation has grown considerably over the past two years or so. In the 2022/23 season, he was superb as City stormed to the Treble.

And then last season, he was integral once again and fans saw how City fared when he was unavailable through suspension.

There have been Ballon d'Or shouts for Rodri, including from Spain manager Luis de la Fuente. But what does his club manager think?

MORE MAN CITY STORIES

He's had two incredible seasons back-to-back, and he has also been at the forefront of Spain's success over the last two years as well.

The former Atletico Madrid man does not really concern himself with individual awards.

But the humble star is bound to find himself in contention to win the next Ballon d'Or, and that is something Pep would really like to see.

He said: "His consistency is brutal.

"I cannot deny how happy I would be if he could get it. But being in the race, being nominated, or winning the Ballon d'Or is fantastic; for him, of course, for his family and friends, but also for #ManCity, the whole organisation..."

Following Spain's win against England in the Euro 2024 final, striker Alvaro Morata stated that he would create an Instagram account for Rodri, in an attempt to make him more marketable ahead of the next Ballon d'Or ceremony.

Rodri deserves the Ballon d'Or Pep's thoughts will be shared by many fans, and not just those that support City.

Rodri has had an outstanding couple of years and he should absolutely be the favourite to win the next Ballon d'Or.

He controls games for City on a weekly basis and his influence is crystal clear - you need only look at how the team played last season when he was not available.

Rodri doesn't just control games and provide solidity in midfield, he also contributes in the final third, as evidenced by his nine goals and 14 assists in 2023/24.

He is a man for big moments, and you simply cannot say he isn't worthy. If there is any justice later this year then he will be the man holding the trophy.
