Manchester City superstar braced for ‘jaw-dropping’ salary package from ambitious club

Saudi Arabia are lining themselves up for a potentially groundbreaking proposal for Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, according to reports.

The Belgian attacking midfielder is currently recovering from surgery on a reoccurring hamstring problem, having been replaced against Burnley in this season's Premier League opener with the same muscular problem that hampered his Champions League final.

While it is understood that Kevin De Bruyne is making good progress in his recovery, and could make a return to first-team activities before the end of the calendar year, the more realistic scenario is that match action involving the former Chelsea man could not come until 2024.

In the meantime, speculation continues to grow surrounding the longer-term future of the player, with his current Manchester City deal expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season, and with the ambitious Saudi Arabian football project circling.

The latest development concerns interest from the Middle-East, and the lengths to which the country could go to try and secure one of Manchester City's all-time greatest ever footballers ahead of his current contract expiry.

According to the information of Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Saudi Arabia are now planning to offer Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne a 'huge' salary package in the summer of 2024.

It is reported that while the 32-year-old is currently 'happy' with life at the Etihad Stadium, the "jaw-dropping" finances on offer in the Middle-East could persuade the Belgium international captain to make a switch away from Manchester.

While the understanding from England is that Manchester City would be willing to offer the midfielder a new deal beyond 2025, Football Insider report that De Bruyne could be proposed a long-term deal from Saudi Arabia 'providing much more security' than at the Etihad.

In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola has been trying to reinvent certain figures within his squad whilst also fast-tracking new figures into the first-team line-up.

That reinvention has seen the emergence of Julian Alvarez as a crucial cog in Guardiola's line-up during the opening months of the new season, with the Argentine World Cup winner rivalling Erling Haaland in the goal contribution charts for the Premier League champions.

Pep Guardiola recent labelled Julian Alvarez as "undroppable" and it is likely that that will remain the case deeper into the season, especially as Manchester City's fixture list intensifies heading into the winter weeks.
