Former Manchester City winger Carlos Forbs is due to return to the Premier League amid a pending move to Wolves. According to David Ornstein, the 20-year-old Ajax star is travelling to England for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move, with a EUR13.5 million (PS11.4m) option to buy clause included.
Wolves reportedly submitted a new offer to the Eredivisie side on Friday morning, as they continue their efforts to bring the Portugal international to Molineux. Forbs is making the trip from the Netherlands to undergo his medical with the West Midlands side, just hours before the transfer window slams shut.
Forbs spent the majority of his junior career in City's youth system but failed to make his breakthrough into the senior team. He eventually moved to Ajax last summer after the Dutch giants hijacked West Ham's bid to keep him in England. Ajax agreed a five-year deal with City for Forbs, which includes a buy-back clause and a 20 percent sell-on clause.
Based on Ornstein's report that Wolves are struggling with the amount they can spend, it seems unlikely they will make Forbs a permanent fixture at Molineux. However, if their financial status improves by next summer, and they are able to pay the PS11.4 million to bring him in permanently, City will pocket PS2.28 million from Ajax's sale.
Forbs can play comfortably on both the left and right wing, and he even made an appearance in midfield as well. The Portuguese youth international made 27 appearances across the Eredivisie and Europa League last season, contributing three goals and five assists along the way.
