When dynamic pricing could hit Man City and Manchester United after Oasis controversy

La Liga club Valencia is set to introduce 'dynamic pricing' for tickets after Oasis courted controversy for a similar action last week.

Fans of the Manchester City supporting band were outraged last week after they spent hours in queues for tickets that were at least double the price advertised when eventually allowed onto the website. Ticketmaster explained this process as 'dynamic pricing' which occurs when an event is particularly popular.

This process is now being investigated by a watchdog. However, the 'dynamic pricing' saga has not gone away with Valencia announcing they would be introducing it for their fixtures with the 'support and technology of La Liga'.

In a statement, they explained: "One of the new features of the 2024-25 season will be the implementation of dynamic pricing for ticket purchases. Following the global trend in shows, sporting events and entertainment, Valencia CF will join this practice, which has the support and technology of La Liga.

"Tickets will therefore go on sale at a base price, which could increase as the days go by, always subject to various parameters such as the occupancy of the stadium area and the proximity of the date, among others. Buying your tickets early will ensure you get the best price!

"Plan ahead and get your tickets in the best area and at the best price. Prices can be viewed online."

At the moment, there appear to be no such plans to introduce 'dynamic pricing' for Manchester United or City fixtures or indeed any Premier League matches. Although, this does not mean that ticket prices have not been criticised in the top flight previously.

While Premier League away fans have their ticket prices capped at PS30, the same practice is not afforded to home supporters. This was made particularly relevant for the recent clash between West Ham United and City at the London Stadium.

When prices were announced in July for the game, U18s in the home end could be charged as much as PS120 to see their team face the Premier League champions.
