Stefan Borson drops Man City 'relegation' bombshell

Man City will struggle to adhere to football's profit and sustainability financial rules if they suffer the doomsday scenario of relegation.

That is the view of financial expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the potential demotion of the defending Premier League champions would change everything.

Relegation from the top flight of English football has been rumoured as a potential punishment for the club due to the 115 charges that loom over the club for alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules.

The hearing for those charges begins on Monday (16 September) after the club ere charged following a four-year investigation.

The financial rules were allegedly breached between 2009 and 2018, with the Premier League giants now being pulled up on them.

Man City currently don't have any profit and sustainability problems Man City had a very quiet summer transfer window, but Football Insider revealed that wasn't due to PSR issues.

Instead, Pep Guardiola is looking to put trust into the youth academy at the club as he continues to operate with a small-sized squad in comparison to other teams in the Premier League.

"I suspect there's no PSR issue in the near term," Borson told Football Insider.

"Clearly, that would change if they were unsuccessful in the 115 situation.

"But if that doesn't happen then I think they've got a lot of capacity on PSR."
