Man City star Matheus Nunes posts 12-word message after deafening boos from Wolves fans at Molineux

Manchester City ran out 2-1 winners at Wolves thanks to a late injury-time header from John Stones.

Pep Guardiola's side were not at their best but managed to get the job done despite a big defensive effort from the hosts.

Wolves took the lead through Jorgen Strand Larsen after a great ball in by Nelson Semedo.

But Josko Gvardiol then equalised in spectacular fashion, beating Jose Sa from 20 yards with his weak foot.

Manchester City then probed for long periods trying to find a winner. Wolves, set up in a back three, really made it difficult with their low block.

Right at the death though, City won it through Stones. The goal was initially given as offside against Bernardo Silva, but after checks, it was deemed the Portuguese was not interfering with Jose Sa.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES

Matheus Nunes, formerly of Wolves, came on in the 86th minute to jeers. And the midfielder has now sent a message on social media after the game.

It was the same story last season - every time he got on the ball he was jeered extremely loudly.

He left Wolves in controversial fashion after going on strike in order to force a transfer to City. Wolves fans have not forgotten that, and made sure they let the player know about it.

But Nunes was able to shut out the noise, and help City win the game.

It was he who made a crucial tackle to win the ball back, before racing upfield with it. He shot, and it was deflected out for the first of a series of corners. City would eventually score through Stones.

After the game, Nunes took to social media to react to the win - and it's one that will probably do little to heal his relationship with Wolves fans.

He said: "What a WIN! What a feeling to win this game! C'mon Citeh ."

Nunes uploaded a few pictures from game, including one of him cupping his ears.

A better Molineux outing for Nunes than last season This was certainly a more positive experience at Molineux for Nunes than the last time he played at Wolves' ground.

He was hooked at half-time last season, which Wolves fans took great pleasure in seeing.

But Nunes had an impact this time around and it's on him now to try and build on it.

There is a reasonable chance he will be starting for City in the next Champions League game against Sparta Prague on Wednesday. If he does well in that match, perhaps he will give Guardiola something to think about.

Because right now, Ilkay Gundogan is not performing at the levels City fans know he can do. No one is really nailing down a place in midfield right now, so the opportunity is there for Nunes.

There is no reason why he can't make himself a regular. Guardiola said recently Nunes has 'special qualities', and it's just about him showing that consistently.
