The Manchester City manager is having to deal with several injuries in the midst of a busy run of fixtures.

Pep Guardiola has admitted he is concerned about Manchester City's lack of options at present, with the team suffering from six injuries at present.

The Catalan confirmed ahead of the Southampton game that Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku won't return this weekend, joining long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb on the sidelines.

It has posed a problem for City over recent weeks, and Guardiola named a bench with just seven of the permitted 12 players on Wednesday. That included two goalkeepers as has been the case in each of the last three games.

Guardiola has spoken on several occasions that he prefers to work with a smaller squad, but with injuries mounting and this marathon season set to run for up to 48 games, City's dearth of players is being a concern.

"Now yeah [it's a worry]," Guardiola admitted. "For one game, two games is fine. Now we have a tough period.

"After this game we have four days [off]. Three days to Bournemouth, how difficult and demanding it is. Go to Lisbon three days [later], and after come back three days to Brighton. With just 14, 15 players, of course I am [worried].

"But I said last season, it is [not] easy for one team to win four in a row. This is the challenge and every season there are difficulties. We had them in the past with important players injured like this season, unfortunately with injury. It is what it is. A perfect scenario never exists."

With so many absentees this weekend, Guardiola won't have many opportunities to rest and rotate his squad. Ederson, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic could all return to the team after starting on the bench against Sparta Prague. Matheus Nunes could continue at left wing, a position he impressed in on Wednesday night.
