Josko Gvardiol is now in his second season at Manchester City.

Back in the 2023 summer transfer window, City shelled out PS77m to sign the defender from RB Leipzig.

In his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, the Croatian appeared in 42 games across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and three assists along the way.

Having featured in 28 Premier League matches, the defender played a big role in seeing Pep Guardiola's side become the first team to win four consecutive league trophies.

This then led to Peter Schmeichel naming Gvardiol as the best Premier League signing of the 2023/24 season.

Now in the midst of his second season with the Blues, the 22-year-old has shared some insight into which two figures in the City squad he is particularly close with.

Josko Gvardiol names two Man City best mates Speaking in an interview shared on the official Man City website, Gvardiol opened up about how close the City squad are and which players he is closest with.

He said: "I do have that feeling [of a City family]. We spend much time together and I live alone. This is a group of people I need with me, and they make me a better person every day.

"There is also Kova who is a really good friend of mine. We are really close.

"I've said many times - he's a really nice guy and I'm happy I can share a dressing room with him here in Manchester and also with the national team. He helped me a lot in the beginning and spend a lot of time together.

"Matheus [Nunes] as well. I need to mention Matheus because he's a really good person and a funny guy. I really like to spend my time with him."

Kovacic backed Gvardiol to become even better at City Having spent one full season together at the Manchester club, Kovacic recently backed Gvardiol to improve as a player at City, saying this on the matter.

He said: "For sure Josko is a great player, great character, a guy that wants to improve and I think there is no better club than being at City so for sure Josko will be great, already is for this club and for our national team."

With Nunes also joining the Blues in the same transfer window as Gvardiol and Kovacic, this could also be why the defender is particularly close to these two players.

After seeing the Portuguese international score a goal and deliver two assists in City's 5-0 Champions League win over Sparta Prague, Guardiola suggested that he hasn't been giving Nunes the game time he deserves.

From a wider point of view, it should be encouraging for the City supporters to hear that Gvardiol feels the entire squad have a close connection, which would presumably play a big part in why the club have been so successful in recent years.
