As Man City gear up for the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup, there has been plenty going on around the club off the field.
City midfielder Rodri became the first player in the club's history to win the Ballon d'Or on Monday evening, sparking an angry backlash from Real Madrid as he beat out runner-up Vinicius Junior to the award.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim, who was linked with the City job as a possible successor to Pep Guardiola, is expected to become the new Manchester United manager.
With all that in mind, Manchester Evening News have rounded up all of the latest City headlines on Tuesday, October 29.
City's number one managerial target isn't Amorim Manchester City are still intent on keeping Pep Guardiola at the Etihad next season as Sporting coach Ruben Amorim agrees to join Manchester United.
City have appointed Sporting's Hugo Viana as their next sporting director, taking over from Txiki Begiristain at the end of the season. Viana will start working for the Blues in February after the winter transfer window before starting full-time after the Club World Cup when Begiristain leaves.
The fact that Viana's main achievements in his role have come after taking the bold move to appoint Amorim at Sporting - and that Amorim had recently been courted for the Liverpool and West Ham jobs - added to the sense that the pair could link up again at the Etihad. Given the bond between Begiristain and Guardiola has been crucial to City's success, reuniting the pair that have done so well in Portugal seemed like a sensible option.
City are interested in getting Guardiola to sign a new deal; the Catalan still hasn't decided what to do at the end of the season but hope has grown at the club this season that he may yet commit to a decade in charge.
Real reaction could lead to good Rodri news Rodrigo 2025.
That was the front page of a Spanish newspaper as recently as last month, screaming that the best player at the European Championship was a priority target for the biggest Spanish club in the next summer transfer window. With a contract at Manchester City expiring in 2027 and no new deal close to being signed, 2025 was seen as the perfect time to strike.
You could certainly see the logic. Rodri has everything he wants at City, but if he wanted a change of scenery and a return to the city where he bolstered his reputation as a footballer at Atletico before celebrating Spain's triumph in summer Real is one of the only clubs that can match City's ambition.
Except how would president Florentino Perez go about his negotiations now?
"Hi Rodri, we think you're great but we also thought it was such a disgrace that you beat Vinicius Jr to the Ballon d'Or despite a record-breaking unbeaten run at City and multiple trophies that all of us boycotted the ceremony and rubbished the award. Hala Madrid?"
Pep makes Haaland Ballon d'Or point Pep Guardiola said that Vinicius Jr would have been a deserving winner of the Ballon d'Or but spoke with pride about Rodri winning the award.
The Manchester City midfielder was crowned the best player in the world at the annual bash in Paris, a year after Erling Haaland narrowly lost out to Lionel Messi. However, there was no delegation from Real Madrid present after word spread that Vinicius had lost out to Rodri for the main event.
Real had attracted scorn and mockery for their stance, and while Guardiola did not join the pile-on he did mention how graciously Haaland took his defeat last year - one that was far more illogical than Vinicius Jr losing out. Guardiola has never placed too much stock in individual awards but has praised his players for being placed in the conversation.
"Of course, if [Vinicius] had won it would be more than well deserved - like last season when Erling was there and didn't win and congratulated Leo," he said. "I said to Erling, let's try next season to be there again'. Erling was fifth this year and that is magnificent."
