Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester City have had their eyes on Alphonso Davies for the past two years.

The previous summer transfer window saw the Manchester club splash out PS77m for a young defender who was making a name for himself in Germany - Josko Gvardiol.

Now though, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details concerning another Bundesliga defender the Citizens have an interest in.

He said: "I can tell you that Manchester City in the last two years have always been in attendance to keep an eye on Alphonso Davies.

"He's a player they always appreciated, but as we mentioned before, Real Madrid are pushing and they really want the player.

"Man City have sent their scouts multiple times to see the evolution of Alphonso Davies as one of the best full-backs in the world."

Bayern signed the left-back during the 2019 January transfer window from Vancouver Whitecaps. Since then, Davies has gone on to make 171 appearances for the German club across all competitions, scoring eight goals and delivering 28 assists along the way.

This season has seen the Canadian, who has been hailed for his "amazing" performances in the past by Rio Ferdinand, start 17 of the 18 games he has appeared in for Bayern, which shows how important he is for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Across his 11 Bundesliga appearances, the left-back has racked up more recoveries (82) than any other Bayern player, as well as having the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (22) at the club.

In addition to that, Davies has also shown how much of a dangerous attacking figure he can be by having the second-highest total of progressive carries (50) and fourth-highest total of shot-creating actions (35) and key passes (16).

With all of that in mind, it's easy to see why the Manchester club have been keeping an eye on the defender, who we feel, would be a very exciting signing for City to make if they end up doing so.
