Former Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy has launched a claim against his former club reports SkySports. The former French international has lodged a claim with the Employment Tribunal claiming 'unauthorized deductions from wages'.

Manchester City suspended Benjamin Mendy in August 2021 after the defender was charged with rape and sexual assault. The defender was found not guilty of six charges of rape in January 2023 but faced a retrial on two other charges. He was subsequently cleared of the remaining charges in July this year.

Nick De Marco KC released the following statement on behalf of Mendy as his representative: "Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages.

Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offences all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."

Manchester City declined to comment on the matter when asked by SkySports.

Benjamin Mendy made 75 appearances for Manchester City. He arrived at the club in July 2017 from AS Monaco for PS52 million as reported by transfermarkt.com. The defender made a promising start to his City career before a serious knee curtailed his time at the club.

The French World Cup winner signed with FC Lorient as a free agent after his contract with Manchester City expired in June this year.
