Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has dropped his verdict on whether Simone Inzaghi can become the Serie A club's answer to Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sir Alex Ferguson is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time after his legendary success at Manchester United and incredible achievements at Aberdeen.

The legendary ex-United manager arrived at Old Trafford in 1986 and replaced Ron Atkinson as Red Devils boss, with Ferguson enjoying incredible success at the club.

While Ferguson had to weather the storm during his early spell at United, the iconic Scotsman went on to hoover up the major silverware at Old Trafford.

The 82-year-old Scot retired as United manager in 2013 after he led the Red Devils to their last Premier League title, with Ferguson calling it time on his 26-year reign.

The Premier League club have struggled to return to the top of English football in the aftermath of Ferguson's retirement.

Giuseppe Marotta has now opened up on Simone Inzaghi and whether or not he believes that the Inter Milan boss can be the 'San Siro's Sir Alex Ferguson.'

MORE UNITED STORIES

Since his time at the Serie A club, Inzaghi has led Inter to two Coppa Italia titles and engineered the club's sensational run to the Champions League final last season.

The 47-year-old Inter boss came within touching distance of the Champions League title, only for Manchester City to secure a 1-0 win in the 2023 final in Istanbul.

According to FC Inter News, Giuseppe Marotta spoke with Italian broadcaster Mediaset and was asked if Inzaghi was Inter's answer to Sir Alex Ferguson.

When asked about the comparison (as per SempreInter), he responded: "I don't know."

Marotta continued: "The path that Inzaghi has taken has been extraordinary.

"When he arrived, he still had to find his feet. But he's proved that he's a great coach."

Inzaghi doesn't need to be the next Ferguson Inzaghi has impressed during his spell at Inter and the former Lazio boss doesn't need to be the same as Ferguson for the Italian club.

It's easy to say this manager will be the 'next Ferguson' or the 'next Pep Guardiola,' but the challenge on achieving that level of success is much more difficult.

Marotta insisted that Inzaghi has "overcome criticism and pressure" and also highlighted that Inter's head coach is also younger than other top managers.

"He's 10-12 years younger than other top coaches in world football," he added.

"He has overcome criticism and pressure. He has a good method of coaching his football."

Marotta continued: "We're enjoying the work that he's doing.

"And we hope that we can keep enjoying it for as long as possible."
