Man Utd must now replace 'great' player after latest blow, 26-year-old Italian is ideal signing - opinion

Manchester United have been hit with a major blow lately as Luke Shaw returned to the injury list, this time for good it seems.

With some major doubts being levelled ahead of last Sunday over the fitness of Luke Shaw, there was a surprise for many when the England international was named as the starter.

The concerns turned out to be justified as with minutes remaining in the first half, Shaw departed the field of play with a sense of urgency, replaced by Victor Lindelof.

The drop in quality at left-back was substantial and allowed Luton - like it did Aston Villa the week before - to get back into the game and ultimately end up on top with the Swedish captain looking like a fish out of water.

With these injury woes persistent with the 'great' Shaw once more, it may now be time for a replacement for the 10-year Manchester United man to be replaced, and if so then Federico Dimarco is the perfect replacement.

If there is any player who'd be perfect for this at Old Trafford right now, it's Inter Milan's left-back Dimarco who's enjoying another stellar Serie A campaign.

MORE UNITED STORIES

The Italian international was linked last summer with a move to join Erik ten Hag's side, but ultimately it wasn't a priority.

That has changed this season as it's arguably been the weakest point of the starting eleven as more often than not there hasn't been a natural option available due to injury woes.

After yet another impressive campaign for Inter though, Dimarco is the ideal choice for United to strengthen at left-back immeasurably.

Just how good is Federico Dimarco? This season as Inter walks towards the Serie A title, Dimarco has been an incredible player, playing 19 games out of 24. FotMob has handed him an average rating this campaign of 7.42 which is well above average.

He's scored three goals and assisted five this season although he is handed more creative license than he would be at United given he'd be in a back four.

However, despite his attacking game being breathtaking, he's also more than competent defensively when required.

That being said he isn't a player you sign for his defensive actions but rather for what he offers going the other way.

Any interest in Dimarco is likely to be quoted with a huge asking price though, given that he was handed a new contract in December which makes him an expensive proposition.
