'As good as anyone': Joleon Lescott says only one Manchester United player gets into Guardiola's team

After dominating for decades, Manchester United have now had to watch their neighbours steamroll English football.

From dominating the Premier League to winning the UEFA Champions League, it has been nothing but dreamland for Manchester City.

Given that gulf in quality, many would argue that no player from this current Erik ten Hag squad would get into Pep Guardiola's team.

But Joleon Lescott thinks Manchester United's much-talked-about forward Marcus Rashford is 'the only one' who would play for the Treble winners, as he told Premier League Productions (03/03/24 at 12:40 pm).

On Sunday, Marcus Rashford scored a belting long-range effort to open the scoring in the Manchester derby, but it wasn't enough because his team would go on to crumble to a 3-1 defeat.

Heading into the game, there was a lot of noise around the England international because of an interview he had done with the Players' Tribune - Paul Scholes wasn't a happy man.

Looking from the outside, and amid the talent at his feet, Joleon Lescott is 'frustrated' that there is more noise around the player off the pitch than on it.

But the former centre-back didn't hide the fact that Marcus Rashford 'on his day is as good as anyone'.

Marcus Rashford at Manchester City "The thing with Marcus Rashford is that there are so many conversations about him and it's not about his football," said Lescott.

"That's the thing I am frustrated about. I think he is as good as anyone on his day and the consistency is to his best performances.

"I think he is probably the only player in the Man United team that could play for Manchester City, if he is at his best, but he is very rarely there."

Yes, Manchester United can go from winning five or six games in a row to producing abject performances against a weakened Fulham team.

But Rashford is part of those sides and it's his inconsistencies that play a role in his team being so up and down.

Given that he is now a senior player, you imagine there is only so much rope his fans will give him to pull because he simply can't carry on going down this current road.
