The 45 reasons why the Raphael Varane departure decision at Man Utd is the correct one - opinion
Source:Unitedinfocus

Manchester United are set to depart ways with Raphael Varane at the end of the season, with a lot likely down to his high wages and injury record.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that the five times Champions League and World Cup-winning centre-half would be leaving the Red Devils at the end of the 23/24 campaign.

As sad as it is, Manchester United fans have come to the consensus it's a correct decision. The PS41m man was taking up a hefty chunk of the wage bill, but more importantly, was always in the medical tent at Old Trafford.

With this, let's take a look at his injury record during his time around Carrington.

In total, Varane had 11 injuries at Manchester United in just 3 years, he's subsequently had 217 days out, missing 45 games in the process - and counting. 45 games missed in just three seasons is not good enough and is the main reason he needs to be let go.

United in Focus opinion: It's right to let Varane leave As good as the Frenchman has been at times this season, the undeniable fact is we can't keep rewarding players despite their obvious flaws.

Take Anthony Martial, for example, a player who was kept around despite knowledge of his injury track record, which has now completely backfired, with the club unable to play or sell the PS50m striker.

The same mistake can't be made with Varane, particularly whilst he's sitting on a pretty PS240,000 a week. Thanks for the memories Rapha, but it's time to say goodbye to Manchester.
