The 29-year-old joined the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2026.

As reported by Ben Jacobs in an exclusive column earlier this week, Fernandes is wanted by Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Al Nassr but United intend to keep him.

Fernandes was asked about his future on Wednesday evening following United's 3-2 win over Newcastle.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, he replied: "I will be here till when the club wants me and the club wants me to be a part of the future.

"If for some reason they don't want me, then I will go."

The Portuguese playmaker has also scored 10 Premier League goals for United this season.

Wednesday's game was an emotional occasion for Raphael Varane, even though the French defender did not receive any game time.

This was United's final home game before Varane leaves Old Trafford on a free transfer this summer.

Varane - who has made 93 first-team appearances since joining from Real Madrid in 2021 - was pictured enjoying a quiet moment alone in the centre of the field after the game was over and the fans had gone home.

He and Anthony Martial - who is also leaving as a free agent this summer - had waved goodbye to the Old Trafford crowd earlier in the night during United's end-of-season lap of appreciation.

Erik ten Hag's side remain eighth in the table and need to better Newcastle's result at the weekend in order to finish seventh.

Seventh would be enough to guarantee the Red Devils a place in Europe next season.

United can only qualify for the Europa Conference League via their Premier League finish but could yet book a spot in the Europa League by winning the FA Cup.
