Man United are looking at possibly making their move to sign Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

Manchester United's squad will look rather different next season. Heck, they may even be managed by a new boss come the start of the campaign.

As we gear up to what is a huge transfer window for the Old Trafford club, the links and rumours are starting to grow. Among the big needs is a new striker. Anthony Martial is departing, while Rasmus Hojlund needs help. The Dane is mega-talented, though not ready to do it all on his own.

The ex-Atalanta man needs a quality support striker. That's where Ollie Watkins comes in...

According to talkSPORT, United are considering making an 'audacious' move to sign the striker, who has 27 goals across all competitions this season. Watkins' Aston Villa are Champions League-bound after an incredible season.

Watkins is said to fit the ideal 'profile' signing for Reds boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as he wants to sign someone who can help support and develop Hojlund.

Understandably, a deal would provide difficult to do at this time. Villa have Champions League football on the table. United do not. Watkins also signed a new five-year deal at Villa Park just last year. The ball is firmly in their court.

With money tight for the Old Trafford club, the wage budget would have to be trimmed significantly before they can even think about making a move for Watkins, who'd cost an awful lot of money in terms of both transfer fee and weekly earnings.

To me, this feels like an impossibility as things currently stand. Unless Watkins was moving purely for the money, I just do not see this deal happening.
